Commuting in the Philippines is undeniably a struggle for everyone. The everyday commuter is familiar with the usual troubles like long lines and overly tight and crowded vehicles. On top of that, there are unforeseen unfortunate events like theft that can occur along the way. The key to mastering everyday commute is a combination of protective reflexes and the proper body armor — hence a commute-proof comfortable outfit that’s weather and theft proof.
For the first timers and those prepping themselves for their new phase in life that requires a daily commute, we’ve come up with a quick guide to dressing right to survive the grueling ride on every basic transportation.
Check out these do’s, don’ts and must-haves for all commuters:

T-Shirts

A t-shirt is also one of the most comfortable tops to wear when involved with activities like walking, fast-pacing or running in between vehicles. They’re also very versatile and can be paired to either your favorite denim bottoms or your chic skirts. There’s a wide variety of styles and designs for shirts but the most basic, the better. You don’t want to attract too much attention and be the target of any prying eyes.
Comfortable Bottoms

Similar to your comfortable tops, your bottoms also need to be easy to move in. You’ll never know when you need to quickly move along with the crowd or quickly catch that last train. A popular and safe choice would be denim jeans and leggings. For the working gal and guy, trousers and slacks work well too.
Skirts (In Friendly Lengths)

For the ladies who want to spice up their wardrobe a bit and go for a more feminine vibe, skirts are of course commute worthy too. With all the walking and unexpected fast-paced movements, you don’t need the worry of whether your skirt is riding up or if it’s too short. Wear skirts in friendly lengths like midis and office-approved pencil and flared styles.
Running Shoes

Without having to think twice, running shoes are the perfect commute footwear for their incredibly comfortable feeling on the soles. Plus, with its special footwear technology, going from vehicle to vehicle will surely be a breeze. Go for dark colored ones so you won’t have to worry about stains from dirty floors and crowded areas.
Flat Shoes

Go for sandals, ballet flats, loafers, slip ons — anything that doesn’t have heels that are difficult to walk in. This isn’t your regular fashion show or strut down the street. Commuting is a time to hustle. Your soles deserve all the comfort they need.
Button Downs

For the forever classy and lovers of smart casuals, button downs can be a more stylish alternative to t-shirts. Paired with your denim bottoms, chic skirts or stylish shorts, button downs are heaven’s sent for the office peeps who go on a daily grind during rush hour.
Bags

Backpacks are the commuter’s favorite. Apart from being able to carry all your essentials and bulky things, you can carry it in your chest area for a safer and more secure position. Tote bags and carry ons with no zippers or seals are dangerous to carry around while commuting. It’s better to be safe than sorry and go for crossbody bags, sling bags, knapsacks and bags with theft-proof features.
Coin Purse / Pouches

Aside from having your regular wallet that carries all your cards, bigger bills and other important little things, every commuter needs a coin purse. It comes in handy when carrying enough cash to pay for the ride. This way, you can bring in and out of the bag while steer clear from sudden grabs and snatching.
