Who thought these sandals would make it to the gram?
BY FRANCES BELTRAN

At first glance, you might expect Manila’s style icons to constantly sport heels and boots in their regular outfits, with the exception of a few pairs of designer sneakers on their day off. But recently, we’ve been seeing the it girls donning a familiar pair of sandals that recently went off the radar for the past few years. In fact, more accurately, they’ve found their way to the list of “ugly shoes” that have seen a revival as of late.
Birkenstocks, fondly dubbed as the “Jesus sandals”, found their rise during the hippie era of the ’70s. As time passed, they lost their flare to more visually attractive and artistically competitive counterparts. Today, unconventional is the new black and these fashion forward ladies are proving just that by matching their outfits with the last pair of shoes you’d ever expect.
Martine Ho
Going full monochrome is a power move, and no on else could have pulled it off better than the color queen herself, Martine. With a penchant for making soft hues pop, the stark white consistency of her leggings and long sleeves combination makes her look like a gorgeous spy off-duty.

Bea Soriano-Dee
If you can’t imagine wearing a suit outside of the formal scene, let Bea challenge your imagination. Take a two-piece blazer and slacks set, and pair it with a fun printed top inside. The more nature-inspired or tropical, the better. Finish the look off with a pair of Birkenstocks, and you’ve officially gone from work to weekend.

Liz Uy
Gone are the days when style icons flocked to Fendi, Gucci, and Adidas for their famous post-workout appropriate slides. Now, Liz struts in her fitness gear with a pair of lilac Birkenstocks for a cheeky pop of color to an otherwise monochrome set, while at the same time shifting the outfit from straight out of the gym to a polished fresh girl aesthetic.

Isabelle Daza
While playsuits are usually reserved for fancier occasions, Belle tones down the formal effect of the one-piece suit by matching it with a pair of grey Birkenstocks. From lux to laidback, it instantly transformed into a chic weekend look.

Laureen Uy
When it comes to styling dress-like clothes for casual wear, most people would only turn to kitten heels or sneakers to tone down the otherwise formal frock. But Laureen finds that balance by pairing this gorgeous one shoulder top and floral skirt with a matching pair of lilac Birkenstocks. Casual chic at its finest? We think yes.
