It’s obvious that the Hallyu wave, no matter where you are in the world, is showing no signs of ebbing. Korean fashion and K-pop aside, we shouldn’t ignore the last factor that makes up the trifecta: Korean dramas. Drama after drama, it seems impossible to stop swooning over captivating Koreanovelas and we’re all left to wonder, why?
In a fervent mission to explain why many of us binge-watch these shows for hours, we’ve come up with 5 main qualities that make up a good Korean drama.
1. Charming Main Leads
The instinctive inclination and addiction to any drama is greatly owed to its main characters. Main leads for women are often lovely, sweet, and of course blooming in a gorgeous aura. The male leads who often tagged as Korean heartthrobs are undoubtedly a mix of a perfectly sculpted body, a charming face, and a captivating personality. Putting all of these traits together, it’s no wonder that fans fall head-over-heels into K-dramas and imaginary relationships with the lead characters.
2. Adorable Bromances
Bromances in Korean dramas bring out the characters’ personality and deliver comic relief. Portraying unconditional love, trust and having each other’s backs make for great true-to-life scenes that everyone yearns for and can relate to.
3. Emotionally Apt Soundtracks
You don’t have to know how to speak Korean in order to feel the intense emotions that K-drama soundtracks evoke. The gentle and heart-wrenching melodies convey the characters’ feelings and only make the intense scene all the more emotional. A good set of dramatic lines partnered with the right sounds are what cause fans to spiral hopelessly in love with the drama.
4. Couple’s Banter
When not airing countless sweet kilig moments, K-dramas are often filled with couples adorably teasing each other — admittedly these make up for even more kilig moments. The couples also always look so darn compatible with each other and all we can do is ship them further.
5. Engrossing Plots
Whether it’s an intoxicating love affair, a fairytale or a hair-raising thriller, Korean dramas bewitch fans with their relateable and passionate plot lines. After all, who doesn’t like getting a picture of the sweet life and the promise of finding the one we’re destined for?
