Anne Curtis-Smith marks her sixth year with Plains & Prints.

Anne Curtis-Smith is an unstoppable force of nature. Everyday, she takes to the stage and presents herself to a cheerful crowd at ABS CBN for It’s Showtime. She’s an entrepreneur at the helm of one of Manila’s most successful makeup brands, blk Cosmetics. She entices audiences with her superb acting skills through films such as BuyBust, Blood Ransom, Aurora, and soon, Just A Stranger— a scandalous picture set to be released later this month. And for six strong years and counting, Anne remains to be the face of Plains & Prints—a household label in Philippine fashion that also recently celebrated their 25th year in the business with their biggest collaborative undertaking yet, Beyond 25. Read on as ZALORA sits down with Anne Curtis as we discuss all things fashion and beyond.

“Whatever I feel like wearing, I’m going to wear it. So no, [I don’t have a] particular signature style.”
Stylish and Spontaneous

Everyday is a journey and it begins in one’s closet. There are those who plan their outfits weeks in advance, while others, like Anne, prefers to take it day-by-day. She describes her approach to fashion as “Anything under the sun. Whatever I feel comfortable in, and whatever the occasion is—that’s how I adapt to what I’m going to wear for the day.” And that easy-going, versatile yet always chic and fun personality is exactly what the entire country fell in love with.

The term signature style is unfamiliar with the Australian-Filipina actress, “I don’t have one,” she raises her hands to shrug and lets out a small laugh. “Whatever I feel like wearing, I’m going to wear it. So no, [I don’t have a] particular signature style.” One quick scroll through her social media can prove just that. As you get lost through snapshots of her life, you’ll find a mixture of feathered frocks, t-shirts paired with jeans, and edgy K-pop inspired outfits—all different, but somehow, all very Anne.

"If there’s something you saw on someone else that you really love, give it a try! If it works, then it works. If it doesn’t, then it’s okay."
Breaking Into the World of Fashion

Exercising her ability to motivate and inspire, Anne provides tips for women who are intimidated by fashion. “Don’t be afraid, especially if it’s something you really like. At the end of the day, it’s you who will decide if you feel comfortable in it or not.” Anne’s word of advice, “If there’s something you saw on someone else that you really love, give it a try! If it works, then it works. If it doesn’t, then it’s okay. Don’t force it.”

Beyond 25

In celebration of Plains & Prints’ 25th year in the industry, the brand has joined forces with 15 of the most notable names in Filipino Fashion— Rajo Laurel, Vania Romoff, Rhett Eala, Patty Ang, Rosanna Ocampo, Randy Ortiz, Martin Bautista, Amina Aranaz, Maureen Disini, Anthony Ramirez, Mark Bumgarner, Cheetah Rivera, and Charina Sarte— as well as famous photographers Mark Nicdao and Wig Tysman. Beyond 25, the auspicious collection featuring 50 wearable designer pieces was of course fronted by no other than Anne herself.

With so many pieces to mix and match into an outfit, we asked Anne how she styles the collection. “Honestly, there’s no need for styling,” she rebuts, “they’re gorgeous as is! I really feel that [thanks to] all of the different designers who collaborated with Plains & Prints, it was so well thought of, you don’t really need much.” Considering her affinity for the perfect pair of shoes, styling freedom is what the actress suggests. “It’s up to you if you want to wear it with sneakers or heels or block heels. It depends on what vibe you’re going for.”

"Whenever I need to go for something feminine or classic, my instant go-to is Plains & Prints."

Having been the face of a brand that caters to the modern Filipina for six years now, she describes how her excitement has never wavered. “Aside from the fact that they always like to collaborate with other Filipino designers, I love that whenever I need to go for something feminine or classic, my instant go-to is Plains & Prints.”

Looking back at all the memorable collections, she claims the standout to be the Audrey, as well as her very first campaign, which featured a piece with a large ribbon. She smiles as she reminisces about it before quickly changing her mind. “The Mother’s Day collection, which was with my mum… I also really love the photography collection, which [used] Mark Nicdao’s prints!” With so many good ones to choose from, it was hard to make her pick only one. “I would have to say all the collaborations with the Filipino designers—I love everything. So it’s hard to choose talaga!” She lets out a loud and boisterous laugh, true to life and not composed for the camera.

But in true Anne Curtis fashion, there’s no slowing her down. To create a collection with such a popular brand is the dream, and it is one that Anne is about to turn into a reality. After years of modelling for other designers, prepare yourselves for a collection that is 100% Anne. Trying to beg for clues, we were left empty handed, save for this closing statement, “Watch out for it. It’s coming soon! It’s coming out very soon.”
